‘SHE BELIEVED SHE COULD, SO SHE DID.’

R.S. GREY

It was October 2019 and in my inbox was an invitation to participate in the 2020 Floret Farm online Flower Farming Course. I read through it and instantly thought wouldn’t this be fun to do with my daughter Myakoda, but it came with a large price tag. In fact, more than my entire yearly homeschooling budget, so it was hard to justify it. So I deleted the email and started my day.

My mother has always told me I can handle just about anything but the ‘No’ word, and when it pops up in my life I almost always find a way to make things happen in spite of it. So my thoughts kept going back to how do I make this happen! Enter in divine intervention in the name of a prayer, an idea and a phone call.

I picked up the phone and called my husband…

ME: Hey love, I have an idea!

HUSBAND: Ok, let’s hear it!

ME: I came across this flower farming course that starts in January and they are taking registrations. WHAT IF I started a flower farm with Myakoda and some of her friends?

HUSBAND: (silence)

ME (getting my brave on): WHAT IF the girls and I learn together how to be flower farmers. Wouldn’t that be a great entrepreneurial homeschooling project? Think of all they would learn!

HUSBAND: Sounds like a great idea and a lot of fun but…

ME interrupting: I would be able to use all of my plant knowledge, and Myakoda would be with friends learning. I think it would be an amazing experience but it costs $1900.

HUSBAND: (silence)

ME: WHAT IF your business sponsors the majority of the cost and each girl will pay a small portion so they are invested in it. Your office donates money all the time to schools in the community. Couldn't they donate some to our homeschool?

HUSBAND: (silence)

ME: (silence)

HUSBAND: I think you should go for it. Let me make some phone calls and we will settle it up tonight!

ME: (happy dancing through out the house)

Well the rest is history! That was the moment that Husband became our first investor and went from Dr. John by weekday to Farmer John by weekend…and we started a flower farm!
